What to Expect

What can coaching really help you accomplish?

Coaching is most often described in terms of what it’s not – it’s not therapy or counseling, and it’s not teaching or consulting.

You see coaching is in fact a process – and its benefits and results come from the relationship that is formed between the client (you) and the coach (me).

Coaching helps you reach your goals faster than you would if you go it alone, and it brings out the best in you. But just as all clients are unique, each coaching process or journey (and relationship) will have its own unique character.

What is the process?

Coaching begins with an initial session to discuss your immediate, short-term and long-term goals, your existing resources, and the obstacles and challenges that have been getting in your way. We identify priorities for action and clearly define your specific desired outcomes.

Each week, I ask you to come to your session prepared with a summary of what you’ve been working on since the last time we talked, anything you’ve been procrastinating on, and specific goals for the session. We clearly define what it is you want to take away from each session, and together we work on ensuring that your session ends with you having accomplished that goal. We test out new strategies and tweak them until they work for you. We uncover your existing strengths and use them to help you make the changes you want to make.

I listen carefully to fully understand your situation, and act as a sounding board as together we explore possibilities and put into place carefully-considered plans and decisions. I encourage you to stretch by trying new things, and I help you shift your thinking to allow you to develop new perspectives. I may challenge you at times, to help you get past blind spots and stuck places.

Between sessions, you’re usually asked to carry out particular actions that support your achievement of your individual goals.

I may give you additional resources in the form of articles, books, questionnaires, exercises and checklists that support your goals.

You may check in with me between sessions to let me know how you’re doing with your assignments.

I’m not located near your office. How can you help me?

No problem. Most of my coaching clients don’t live or work near my office, and our work is done on the phone.

How long does coaching take?

The coaching process works differently for each individual client, depending on their particular goals and challenges. So there’s no standard time frame, but it’s generally agreed that coaching success requires a certain amount of time, commitment and pacing. It’s very reasonable to give coaching a minimum 3-6 month commitment.

How do you decide if the coaching process has been successful?

There are two things that determine if the process has been successful:

  1. You’ve reached the goals you created at the start of coaching
  2. You feel different than you did at the start – more confident and hopeful, empowered, happier, freer, with increased understanding and self-awareness, and new ways of thinking that result in different ways of behaving.

How do I get started?

If you’d like to explore whether coaching is right for you, please call me at 281-412-7231 or contact me through my website to schedule an initial call.

During your complimentary phone call I’ll get a sense of your particular goals and challenges, and we’ll determine if I’m the right coach for you. If I know of a better match for you, I’ll be glad to provide you with a referral.
