The Full Mind Weigh® – Coaching that Empowers you to Stop Regaining the Weight you Lost!
If I told you that I used to weigh 240 pounds, if you’re like most people I’ve talked to the first (and perhaps only) question you’d probably ask me is, “How did you do it?”
As if losing the weight was the end point, the goal, a feat I accomplished, a challenge I overcame – with a secret attached to it, a quickie formula or recipe, a magic bullet or pill. As if I can tell them in a short answer how to end their struggles. As if I hold, in just a few words, the answer they’ve been searching for – perhaps for decades. And perhaps I can – and do.
You see, I have something to tell you.
The magic bullet is not in your pantry, or on the shelves at the grocery store. It’s not even at the gym. It’s not at your doctor’s office. It’s not even in the operating room where they do all those bariatric surgery procedures.
It’s in your mind.
The secret is not a particular “diet”, or a workout program, or anything else that exists outside of you.
The secret is about how you think about food, eating and weight. It’s about your relationship with food (yes, I know that’s an overused, confusing and perhaps meaningless phrase). It’s about how you use food, what you use it for. It’s about how you handle loneliness, anxiety, boredom, sadness, and other emotions, and how you deal with the people, events and situations that stress you out, disappoint you, hurt you or anger you. It’s about how you take care of yourself and your deepest emotional needs. It’s about a commitment to yourself, to a healthy life, to life itself.
So the most important question you can ask me is not “How did you do it?” – in other words, what did I do in the past – but “How do you keep it off?” – in other words, what am I doing now, and what do I intend to keep doing. Because we know that the biggest struggle for most people is not losing the weight, but keeping it off. After all, millions of people successfully lose weight each year! But how many of them regain? A lot. And this was always my biggest struggle, until I finally figured it out.
My answer to the question about which “diet” program did I do (practically all of them, over decades of my life) – or did I have surgery (no, but I have absolutely nothing negative to say about people who choose to go that route) will not help you with your individual struggle. But I can tell you how to keep it off.
And there’s no end point. The challenge continues every day of your life. But I promise you from my heart that it’s totally, completely, absolutely worth it.
I’d love to read your comments on this post. Can you relate? Does what I’ve said about the most important question make sense to you?
